I’m Fiona, an artist and science communicator. I’m originally from California and currently living in Eastern Washington—you may notice my obsession for the West Coast and the mountains in my artwork.
I love being outdoors, and I make art that reflects my gratitude and wonder for the natural world. I also love making science more accessible and understandable to anyone, regardless of their educational background.
I earned a BA from Colorado College, where I majored in Environmental Science and minored in Art. When I was in school, art and science felt like two different worlds. In reality, my interest in both subjects stem from the same source: an innate desire to learn about and interact with the world around me.
As a life-long learner, art and science are integral to my quest for knowledge. Art expands my ability to observe, ask questions, and understand nuance. Science gives me answers to my questions, feeds my curiosity, and expands my sense of wonder.
My experience as a camp counselor, citizen science teacher, and community outreach lead taught me to find immense reward in sharing the wonder of science with others. When used together, I believe art and science are powerful education and science communication tools. Art provokes emotion, and emotion is how you get people to care about science. Caring is the first step to learning—you can’t truly teach people who aren’t engaged.
The purpose of this website is to serve as a portfolio of my work as an artist and science communicator. If you like what you see and are interested in partnering with me or commissioning a piece, please contact me:
